Cirque Du Freak Vol. 1 by Darren Shan art by Takahiro Arai YP FIC SHAN

Darren Shan was your average kid with a normal life, but destiny has big plans for him. A mysterious dark figure gives hi a flyer for the Cirque Du Freak, an unusual and dangerous circus filled with real life monsters. His best friend thinks it's finally his chance fulfill his lifelong dream to become a monster, but the circus has other plans. When the circus chooses Darren to join them, he must make an impossible choice: his life or his best friends, but either choice he makes will separate the two forever. Join the dark and cool world of Cirque Du Freak in the manga of the hit novels series.

I have to say it takes massive guts to name the hero of your books that is a remarkable and awesome Child of Destiny (I call them C.O.D.s) after yourself. MASSIVE. But Darren Shan (the author) is a Go Big and Go Big Often kind of writer. He likes things creepy and crawly and goes for the jugular. That's why so many people flock to his books. He is one of the coolest young adult horror writers working right now, so I'm happy I can say that the manga of Cirque Du Freak is off to a promising start. It didn't grab me as quickly as the novel did and I liked Darren better in the books, but the art is super cool and once the story gets going it gets good. This first volume tells the entire first book of Cirque Du Freak, so the pace is much quicker than the novel. I'll definitely look forward to more volumes. I you like the series of books check this one out or check it out to see if you might like the books.
